Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare
Providers Recertification
Intended for persons in healthcare professions who have a
current BLS for Healthcare Provider certificate through the
American Heart Association (AHA) and need to recertify.
This course provides a refresher to recognize and initiate
management of life-threatening emergencies, perform CPR, use
an AED, and to relieve choking. You will receive an American
Heart Association course completion card that is valid for two
years after completing this course. A valid email address is
required.
Note: Fee for all sections is $59. 1 session.

This course is designed to prepare individuals to safely
administer or supervise self-administration of non-parenteral
medications in a RCF less than 15 beds, or the following levels of
care: ICF, ICF-ID, PMIG, PMI. 100% attendance is required.

Certified Medication Aide
Fulfills requirements for individuals to administer non-parenteral
medication in long-term care and RCF facilities (15 beds and
larger). A 10- to 20-hour practicum will be completed in the
facility of student’s employment under the direction of a
registered nurse within six months of beginning class. Must
meet State of Iowa prerequisites, including: if employed in
a certified nursing facility, must be employed for at least six
months by the facility, must be eligible on the Iowa Nurse Aide
Registry and facility administrator must recommend student for
the course. If employed in residential or related type of agency
licensed by DIA, student is required to provide recommendation
from the administrator in the facility where employed. All
students must identify the RN who will be supervising their
practicum. Textbooks are included in the class fee.
