Sorocaba Technology Park:
encouraging growth
Sorocaba Technological Park is an initiative
that guarantees multidisciplinary support to new
entrepreneurs. It was created to attract and accommodate
technology-intensive companies, educational and
research institutions, as well as consulting companies
or organizations, public and private, that can offer
technical and market support services. The objective
is to disseminate the culture of innovation and
entrepreneurship for sustainable development in the
municipality through articulations between public
authorities, higher education institutions and the
business sector, accelerating the transformation of
knowledge into wealth.
City is the birthplace of startups
Sorocaba is the 6th city in the state of São Paulo with
the most startups, according to data from the Brazilian
Startup Association (ABStartups). Currently, there are
44 companies of this model registered by the entity and
it is estimated that, due to the size of its innovation
ecosystem, this number exceeds 100 companies. Startup
is a company model that generally operates in the
technology area and develops innovative products or
services with the potential for rapid growth without
proportional increase in costs.
Meeting drives Local Productive
Arrangements (APL’s))
Sorocaba City Hall promoted a Local Productive
Arrangement (APL) and received around 120
businessmen for an event with the innovative proposal
to integrate and discuss bonds and interaction, the
1st Metal-mechanical Business Meeting. The goal
was the recognition of Sorocaba as Local Productive
Arrangement municipality. The purpose of the meeting
was to join forces through the APL, which is nothing
more than the union of companies that have productive
specialization and maintain links of articulation,
interaction, cooperation and learning among themselves
and with other local players, such as: government,
business associations and educational institutions.
Sorocaba currently has four APL’s in formation: Metal
mechanics, Aeronautics, Artisanal Microbreweries and
Renewable Energies.
