Sorocaba, one of the major cities in quality of life
Considered the main tourist spot in Sorocaba, the
Municipal Zoo Park “Quinzinho de Barros” occupies an
area of 130 thousand square meters, with about 1,200
animals of 300 species, 70% belonging to the Brazilian
fauna. It is one of the largest collections in Latin America
and an important preservation center that also houses the
Sorocaba Historical Museum, installed in a mansion built
in 1780.
Culture, history and ecotourism
The city has museums, monuments, heritage and
historic buildings that recall the past, such as the Sorocaba
Railway. In the central region, there are interesting spaces
such as Boulevar Braguinha, central point of store owners,
Monastério São Bento, Praça Coronel Fernando Prestes,
Metropolitan Cathedral, Children’s Library, Scarpa
Palace and the Municipal Market. Over the years,
Sorocaba has been preparing to develop its tourism
potential, especially Ecotourism, valuing protected
natural areas and structures of parks and squares. At
Casa do Turista, the visitor has access to information
and visitation points.
Afforestation values public spaces
Urban afforestation is among the investments of
the Municipal Administration that contribute to the
valorization of public spaces, thermal comfort and
quality of life. In routine actions, the population is
encouraged with the distribution of seedlings of various
species. The city also has a bike path and more than 20
municipal parks open to the public, a large green area
and several options for sports practice and hiking.
Sports Museum
The Sports Museum is a space designed by the City
Hall to enhance the city’s sports history, bringing together
memories of great achievements and moments of glory
for athletes and teams through photos, uniforms and
trophies. The place receives visitors and also donations
for its collection, which has a rich material dedicated to
Sorocabano club.
Sports Gymnasium
and Sorocaba Arena
Inaugurated in the 50s, the Municipal Sports
Gymnasium “Dr. Gualberto Moreira” is the oldest sports
space in the city and continues to serve as a reference
for indoor sports. The Sorocaba Arena “Eurydes Bertoni
Júnior” was delivered in 2016, has official dimensions,
strategic location and capacity for 4 thousand fans.
