cultural and environmental wealth, as well as quality<br />

<strong>Sorocaba</strong>, one of the major cities in quality of life<br />

Considered the main tourist spot in <strong>Sorocaba</strong>, the<br />

Municipal Zoo Park “Quinzinho de Barros” occupies an<br />

area of 130 thousand square meters, with about 1,200<br />

animals of 300 species, 70% belonging to the Brazilian<br />

fauna. It is one of the largest collections in Latin America<br />

and an important preservation center that also houses the<br />

<strong>Sorocaba</strong> Historical Museum, installed in a mansion built<br />

in 1780.<br />

Culture, history and ecotourism<br />

The city has museums, monuments, heritage and<br />

historic buildings that recall the past, such as the <strong>Sorocaba</strong><br />

Railway. In the central region, there are interesting spaces<br />

such as Boulevar Braguinha, central point of store owners,<br />

Monastério São Bento, Praça Coronel Fernando Prestes,<br />

Metropolitan Cathedral, Children’s Library, Scarpa<br />

Palace and the Municipal Market. Over the years,<br />

<strong>Sorocaba</strong> has been preparing to develop its tourism<br />

potential, especially Ecotourism, valuing protected<br />

natural areas and structures of parks and squares. At<br />

Casa do Turista, the visitor has access to information<br />

and visitation points.<br />

Afforestation values public spaces<br />

Urban afforestation is among the investments of<br />

the Municipal Administration that contribute to the<br />

valorization of public spaces, thermal comfort and<br />

quality of life. In routine actions, the population is<br />

encouraged with the distribution of seedlings of various<br />

species. The city also has a bike path and more than 20<br />

municipal parks open to the public, a large green area<br />

and several options for sports practice and hiking.<br />

Sports Museum<br />

The Sports Museum is a space designed by the City<br />

Hall to enhance the city’s sports history, bringing together<br />

memories of great achievements and moments of glory<br />

for athletes and teams through photos, uniforms and<br />

trophies. The place receives visitors and also donations<br />

for its collection, which has a rich material dedicated to<br />

<strong>Sorocaba</strong>no club.<br />

Sports Gymnasium<br />

and <strong>Sorocaba</strong> Arena<br />

Inaugurated in the 50s, the Municipal Sports<br />

Gymnasium “Dr. Gualberto Moreira” is the oldest sports<br />

space in the city and continues to serve as a reference<br />

for indoor sports. The <strong>Sorocaba</strong> Arena “Eurydes Bertoni<br />

Júnior” was delivered in 2016, has official dimensions,<br />

strategic location and capacity for 4 thousand fans.<br />
