Erinyes
Pen and brown ink, grey wash over traces of black chalk.
Inscribed Allégorie de la campagne de 1812 on the verso.
195 x 183 mm (7 5 /8 x 7 1 /4 in.)
The atmosphere of this surprising drawing is reminiscent of the works of the sculptor
Sergel, although it cannot be attributed to him. It can also be connected to the
works of Louis Masreliez, who, like Sergel, studied with Pierre-Hubert Larchevêque
in Stockholm. The sheet also calls to mind several French neoclassical artists, such as
Fabre, in Rome from 1787 to 1824.
