LEONARDO DA VINCI
Housed at the Louvre since 1797, the subject has no
eyebrows (it was the fashion in Renaissance
Florence). The 2'x2' painting is actually called “La
Gioconda” because it is a portrait of the wife of
merchant Francesco del Giocondo. The painting
was once stolen and not retreived until two
years later, creating its fame.
