The extra bonus ofrecognizing and identifying a cornucopiaof bees, beetles and butterflies becomes alasting learning experience.In the ten acre woodlot, each seasonof nature’s beauty surrounds us. In thespring, the touch and feel of Trilliums andMay Apples, confirm the magic of theirnumbers. In the summer, what a thrill itis to see the evening woods light up withcountless fire flies. Of course, in the fall,the crunching of the leaves as we take ourwalks is music to our ears. Winter again fillsus with awe as we follow the many animaltracks in the fresh fallen snow. Theyare captivated by the varietyof materials used in thisinteresting hobby. It isamazing how their littlefingers quickly learnto expertly wind thethread around thetiny hooks. Using theirimagination, they haveadvanced, with Upa’sguidance, to createtheir own flies, whichthey proudly hang in aspecial place for all to see and admire.We have learned to do many indoorand outdoor chores, which have taughtpatience, persistence, responsibility andpride in doing their best.We have learned that it is important toreally listen to each other and to solve ourproblems together in a fair and usuallysimple way.We have learned to give and receive loveand respect each others feelings.We also have found that it feels so goodto laugh a lot together.Life seems so uncomplicated at Upa andNana’s place.The age of fast moving technology isslowly taking over our world.
