RED BORDEAUX
FIRST GROWTHS
CHÂTEAU MOUTON ROTHSCHILD
Château Mouton Rothschild is a wine estate located
in Pauillac in the Médoc region. The Château was
not awarded 1st growth status included in the
original Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of
1855, however after a long battle it was famously
promoted to this revered status in 1973 – the only
change to be made to the original Classification of
1855. Each year the label is designed by a famous
artist, with past labels having been designed by the
likes of Salvadore Dali, Pablo Picasso and Francis
Bacon.

Robert Parker proclaims Château Pétrus to be “the 2011 3 000 125 €

famous red wine in the world”. The bottle’s label alone

is instantly recognisable, with “PETRUS” emblazoned
in bright red. The wine is widely regarded as being 2014 23 998 049 €
the absolute pinnacle of what can be achieved with the Merlot grape. Pétrus is Latin for Peter
(who also features on the label), who guards the gates of heaven, which is perhaps appropriate
considering many view this wine as “the holy grail”. Pétrus is largely responsible for elevating the
reputation of the Pomerol appellation and is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after wines in
the world.
