COT ES DE PROVENCE
THE BANDOL REGION
Bandol is a key appellation in Provence, but as opposed to the larger Côtes de
Provence, this region is equally famous for its complex, deep red wines as it is for
its fragrant and well-structured rosés. The main grape here is Mourvèdre, which is
a rather powerful variety with firm tannins and aromas of black brambly fruit and
roasted smoky herbs. It needs plenty of sun and heat to ripen, which makes Bandol
the perfect spot with its sun-drenched terraces near the sea.

CHÂTEAU DE PIBARNON
The Pibarnon vineyard is a small paradise in Provence, extending over 52 organically
cultivated hectares. Vines are cared for according to organic principles, yet the estate is
not officially certified. “Château de Pibarnon fashions some of the top wines from this
incredible appellation. Any reader wanting to taste the best expression of Bandol should get
on this estate’s bandwagon, as the price has yet to catch up to the quality” (Robert Parker).

DOMAINE TEMPIER
A truly legendary estate in Bandol that is renowned for its long-lived wines. In 1936, when Lulu
Tempier married Lucien Peyraud the couple received the vineyard as a wedding gift. Lucien started a
thorough study of the soils of Bandol and after much campaigning Bandol was awarded AOC status
in 1941. After the Second World War, Lucien embarked on a tireless crusade to promote the wines
of Tempier internationally and to have Bandol recognized alongside the finest wines of France.
