A preloved Christmas<br />
It’s the most wonderful time of the year, but it<br />
can also be the most wasteful. As luck would<br />
have it, The ReUsers have a more eco-friendly<br />
way for you to shop this Christmas as well as<br />
accepting donations in the aftermath, when you<br />
inevitably find you’ve been gifted two of the<br />
same thing or need to make space for the kids’<br />
new toys.<br />
Conveniently sited on the same road as Sutton<br />
Coldfield Household Recycling Centre, The<br />
ReUsers save around 250 tonnes of ‘waste’<br />
from landfill every year by rescuing, restoring<br />
and recycling secondhand items, in partnership<br />
with Birmingham City Council and Veolia<br />
Environmental Services.<br />
Their huge Christmas shop was officially opened<br />
by the Mayor of Sutton Coldfield, Councillor<br />
Terry Wood, on November 8. They have<br />
thousands of new and preloved Christmas items<br />
for you to browse, from wreaths, ornaments,<br />
tinsel, trees and vintage baubles, to Santa hats,<br />
Christmas jumpers, CDs, books, gift bags and<br />
wrapping paper. Each year the shop is gaining in<br />
popularity, and already by January the team will<br />
be preparing for next Christmas.<br />
If you’re looking for a more environmentally<br />
friendly gifting option this year, The ReUsers’<br />
site is the perfect place to find hidden treasures<br />
that others don’t want but are too good to throw<br />
away. It has different departments including<br />
antiques, bikes, electricals, furniture, garden and<br />
sports, with all items cleaned and tested before<br />
being sold. They also run an eBay shop where<br />
you can view and purchase some of the more<br />
unusual items from the comfort of your sofa.<br />
It’s not just a great environmental cause you’re<br />
supporting when you visit. The ReUsers is<br />
a social enterprise - part of the JERICHO<br />
organisation - which aims to break barriers and<br />
change lives by creating jobs, work experience<br />
places, and training opportunities.<br />
You can also show your support by donating<br />
unwanted goods. The donations station operates<br />
on an appointment basis during regular opening<br />
hours. A flood of donations of all shapes and<br />
sizes, new and preloved, since the start of the<br />
pandemic has meant that in <strong>2021</strong> the team<br />
were able to extend their bookshop, and open<br />
a clothes shop – modern and vintage – and a<br />
haberdashery.<br />
