Why would an elevator consultant
invest time and money to attend a symposium
on parking? At face value, the
perplexity could be justified. Yet when
you dive down into the underlying
objective of elevator traffic analysis, the
connection becomes obvious.
Traditionally, elevators have been
designed on the design criteria of waiting
interval (INT) and handling capacity
(HC). The criteria invariably has had the
logic right, higher the class of the building,
the better both these parameters
(waiting interval and HC) should be.
While this consideration could be justified
for INT, can this be true of HC?
Should not HC be linked to the possible
peak arrival rates the access modes to
