10 Writing Your Life Story Are you interested in joining a new Activity Group to work together on this subject? Many of us were isolated during the beginnings of the pandemic, and we looked for projects we could work on to fill the hours, weeks, and months. My idea was to write my life story. My father and my sister had both undertaken this task, so I felt almost obligated to make my contribution to our family archives. I took a six-week on-line course, and spent many hours sorting reference material from diaries, scrapbooks, and photo albums. Working on the project for a few hours most days, I eventually finished the task. Looking back, I think the most difficult part was getting started. Several people I have spoken to have expressed an interest in “having a go” on their own life story, but where to begin? Everyone’s life story is different, of course, and some of you may find the idea a bit intimidating. However, I think we could achieve some measure of success if we approach this task in small steps, working together. If you are interested in following up on this idea, please let me know, and perhaps we can develop an Activity Group within the GWSA, meeting weekly and sharing ideas. The GWSA requires information regarding the level of interest in establishing such a group. If there are sufficient numbers, we will be able to proceed. If you would like more information and would like to submit your name as a “founding member” of this new Group, please contact me directly. I look forward to hearing from you. 11 COMPUTER MENTORING New Activity Group - Rug Hooking Just about everyone with a computer runs into problems. Don’t struggle when there is help available at these weekly mentoring sessions. Volunteers from the GWSA Computer Club are available to assist you with your specific problem areas. All computer mentoring sessions are held on Monday afternoons from 1-3 pm Class length: 2 hours Cost: $3.00 for Members and $5.00 for Non-Members. Participants pay in advance at the front desk or register using RecEnroll.ca. Traditional rug hooking is both an art & a craft where rugs, wall hangings & many different types of decorative and functional objects are made by pulling loops of fabric or yarn through a stiff, woven base such as burlap, linen or rug warp. The loops are pulled through by using a crochet-type hook that is mounted on a wooden handle. It is an enjoyable, fun and very social hobby. The Rug Hooking group meets Tuesdays, 12:00– 4:00 pm in Room 2 at the Evergreen Centre. New participants are welcome! No person should be excluded from programs due to finances. The Fee Assistance in Recreation Program (FAIR) can be used to reduce membership dues and program fees by as much as 80%.
