By: Sandi Davis / Fashion “Cents” May flowers are arriving! The trees are blooming, flowers are sprouting on bushes and my sinuses are awake and aware, with sneezes filling the air! Last month I talked about cleaning out the closet and I mentioned “Simple Treasures.” We all have them in our closet, right? One of mine is my Elvis T-Shirt. I purchased him in Memphis at the Elvis Graceland gift shop. I have other special treasures, including my wedding dress. But wedding dresses are another topic we can discuss next month. (I really love it when I start writing and the topic for another month just arises.) I love shoes, then jackets, then hats. Probably in that order. So recently due to age (what!) and achy feet, my shoe closet has taken a hit. 38 May 2022 Simple Special Treasures Three-inch heels are dwindling, but I do have two that are simple treasures that I will always keep for those special occasions or when I want to look particularly sassy. Jackets rank high in simple treasures, because you can easily change up your basic uniform of nice black pants or jeans, with a simple black tee or top or sweater. Or all white… or any color really. Then add a sparkly jacket, or something sassy and you can change the mood. I have six simple treasure jackets, black with gold sequins, black with embroidered flowers on the sleeves, blue with a black lace overlay, red (need I say more), cream leather, brilliant blue with embroidered butterflies and beads. I will never part with these. But back to simple treasures. I call them simple because when I wear them it makes me smile. I bet that everyone has a few of them in their closet. Simple does not mean plain, but rather “pure” in the delight they give you along with the memory of when you received it or bought it, or perhaps, the first occasion you wore it, and the people you were with. Simple and special. So maybe they should be “Simple Special Treasures.” Place them in the front of your closet and wear them more often. It will always brighten your day. Maybe a facial to brighten up your face or a new hair style for a fresh look! We happen to have some of the finest spas right here in Las Vegas! Knowing the best place to find real info on all things beauty is through friends, I reached out to some of my “in the know” beautiful girlfriends to get their take on their favorite spas and salons. The recommendation I got for a great facial from my dear friend with near-perfect skin, was Awana Spa at the new Resorts World. I haven’t been yet but was told the spa itself is beautiful! They are a full-service spa but their facial was what she raved about. Best massage recommendation was the Luxury Thai Spa, a smaller but highly recognized day spa, loved by locals, having won numerous awards. Several people mentioned this spa so I have put it on a must try list for myself. They have many massage options, including 4 hand and couples massage. Hair, our crowning glory, nothing can make you feel better than a good cut, maybe even a splash of color. The salon at Wynn/Encore was recommended by one of my best friends. She always has great hair and that’s her go-to place. I asked about a specific stylist and she says she’s been to several and they are all good. As per the norm, a consult to make sure you are on the same page as the stylist is always important. Lastly, following up on last month’s doggy fashion article, I heard from a wonderful woman with a spa suggestion for our furry family members. After all, they’re people too. There is a new mobile grooming spa called The Good Dog Spa (www. thegooddogspa.com). I was told, the owner, Steve Schiefer, is a very experienced, long-time groomer and animal lover. Recently relocating to Henderson, he decided to start this business to bring a little pampering to our doggies and convenience for us. If your little one is in need of a doggy makeover, this might be worth checking out! Get a little pampering if you can, enjoy your spring, and get ready for summer, it will be here before you know it!
