Liars, Thieves and Whores

They’re all thieves” I screamed to my Rana.
While my PILL (partner in love & life) has
learned to ignore my temper tantrums and crazy
outbursts, even she had to admit that our recent encounters were
shockingly outrageous.
It all began last month when Rana was, once again, asked to
do guardianship seminars at various senior
communities. Such presentations have been on
“hold” for two years due to the COVID pandemic.
With life starting to return to “normal,”
the requests started to come in and Rana was
more than willing to resume her Guardian
Gladiator role. As her loyal servant, we updated
the presentation to include the latest guardian
information as well as senior scams and, her new
Don Quixote quest – Concerned Friends & Family
Program.
Anyway, in preparing the update, Rana
thought it was very important to include the long-sought, much
needed “Guardianship Hotline” telephone number. This was our
state government response to “protect” the public from the dangers of
guardianship abuse.
I called the number. Twice. Both times were recordings advising that
“they” would get back to me.
After 3 weeks, I’m still waiting.
What a waste of time. Another “looks good, and see how we help our
citizens” but in reality total BS.
I’ve said it before and will continue to do so. If you rely on the
government (or judicial system) to protect you from guardian
predators, you’re going to get screwed.
And yes, I know what you’re thinking.
Perhaps you’ll get one of those attorneys that specialize in
guardianship protections. You know the ones – those that will include
the guardianship nomination form at no charge so long as you retain
them to prepare a trust agreement for you.
Forget the fact that such form is free.
And then I heard from a reader who wanted to engage an attorney for
such a trust agreement. She was skeptical of the lawyer’s ability (and
ethics) when the firm had the audacity to not only charged thousands

of dollars for a simple trust agreement (which is basically a fill-inthe-blanks
form) but would charge an additional $50 to notarize her
signature plus an additional $25 to have one of their employees serve
as a witness.
Talk about greed.
And then not 24 hours later, The Vegas Voice received another (we
now average 9-12 per month) request for advice and assistance.
It seemed that this Sun City resident wanted to update his trust since
his wife recently passed away. The lawyer (who
we have dealt with in the past on guardianship
abuses) strongly advised (it’s called strong-arm
tactics) to immediately come in and revise the
agreement.
It would “only” cost $10,000 for the initial
consult and then another $10,000 upon
completion. And that included a new, beautiful
binder for the trust agreement. Was that
reasonable he asked?
When I asked if he wanted my opinion, I quickly
remarked that the “lawyer is an absolute 100% liar, thief and a whore.”
All the while my Rana was trying to wrestle the phone from me since
she wanted to give her two cents about this lawyer. While Rana agreed
with my sentiment, she scolded me for not being strong enough!
So who’s looking out for you? At the very least, The Vegas Voice (and
especially my Rana) returns all phone calls (and emails). And unlike
those bottom-feeder lawyers, there is never a cost or a fee to help -
although she does not provide fancy binders.
