Marriage Notes for BLANCH COLLINS and OSCAR THORP:
A few days after Blanch and Oscar were married, they moved to Washita County, Oklahoma. They lived in the
small community of Port, oklahoma until 1909 when they sold their land and bought property east of Groom,
Carson County, Texas. They lived there only two years before returning to Washita County.
The appeal of new farm land and the opportunity to buy additional property, they moved back to Carson County,
Texas in 1916. Oscar bought and sold several pieces of property during his lifetime. Five of those properties were
farmed by each of his children who would later own their respective pieces of land.
Oscar was an active member of The First Baptist Church in Sentinel, Washita County, Oklahoma. All of the
family moved their membership by letter to the First Baptist Church of Panhandle. Oscar was on the church
building committee, which planned the 72 X 100 feet of brick church that two stories and a full basement. This
church building contained fourty rooms costing $45,000 to build. People serving on this project were I. S.
Mullins, O. L. Thorp, George Simms, S. G. Bobbit and Sid O'Keefe. Oscar was Deacon in the church, taught
Bible classes and sang in the choir. He believed the best way to encourage his family to become Christians and
join the Church was to set an Example. He was a good example for all of his family.
