Schooler. Henry Chew certifies to the Revolutionary War service of John Collins. John Collins and Ann Cook, his<br />

wife, appear to have moved to Augusta Co., Va., where they were joined briefly by other members of the family.<br />

"Virginia Magazine of History and Biography," Vol. XI, pg. 227; John Collins had settled on the land in the<br />

vicinity of Moorefield, before 1748. "In the Diary of George Washington, he stated that he had spent the night<br />

with John Collins on April (, 1748 and as John Collins was a cousin of Washington through the Lewis family, this<br />

would not have been so unusual.<br />

In J. E. Norris' "History of the Shenandoah Valley", pg. 63 there is a reference to John Collins. John and his wife<br />

appeared to have had at least five sons, Henry, Edward, John, Richard, and Francis, All end up in Jefferson Co.,<br />

Tenn.<br />

In "Chalkey's" Vol. II pg. 266, 1787. John Collins moved to the French Broad, in the Territory South of the Ohio<br />

(Tenn,) along with his family. Richard removed to Kent., (note; as stated in the record, N. Car. land grants in<br />

Tenn., John Collins received his grant in 1787. At that time Tenn. was part of N. Car.).<br />
