7. Traída del Agua Fiesta (Lomo Magullo, Telde)
7 August
This festival is inspired by the rites of the island's pre-Hispanic aborigines, who
pleaded with the gods to send them water in the form of rain. In return, they
would go in procession to their sacred places and offer them milk and butter.
Today, now that the water has been channelled, it is celebrated by opening the
village irrigation channels at midday, although the festival begins much earlier
with a "water fight". Get your swimming costume, goggles and snorkel ready...
and don't forget your gun and bucket.

7. Traída del Agua (Lomo Magullo, Telde)
7 de agosto
Esta fiesta está inspirada en ritos de los aborígenes prehispánicos de la isla, que
pedían a los dioses que trajeran agua en forma de lluvia. A cambio, iban en procesión
a sus lugares sagrados y les ofrecían leche y manteca. Hoy, que el agua
ya está canalizada, se celebra abriendo las acequias del pueblo a las doce del
mediodía, aunque la fiesta comienza mucho antes con una “batalla de agua”.
Prepara el bañador, las gafas y el tubo… y no te olvides de la pistola y el cubo.

8. Fuegos de San Lorenzo Fiesta (Las Palmas de
Gran Canaria) - 9 and 10 August
In the early hours of the morning of the 9th to 10th August, at around one
o'clock in the morning, the village of San Lorenzo hosts an impressive fireworks
display as the main event of its patron saint's fiestas, which are held in
the first fortnight of August. This event always attracts hundreds of islanders
who throng the streets of the village, even though it is a working day. A visit to
this event is definitely worthwhile.
8. Fuegos de San Lorenzo (Las Palmas de
Gran Canaria) - 9 y 10 de agosto
En la madrugada del 9 al 10 de agosto, alrededor de la una de la mañana,
el pueblo de San Lorenzo acoge un impresionante espectáculo pirotécnico
como acto cumbre de sus fiestas patronales, que se celebran la primera quincena
del mes de agosto. Un evento que siempre congrega a cientos de isleños
que abarrotan las calles del pueblo, aunque sea un día laborable. Merece la
pena.

9. Fiesta del Pino (Teror) - 7 and 8 September
The Virgin of El Pino is the patron saint of Gran Canaria. It therefore comes as
no surprise that, on the eve of the 8th of September, thousands of islanders
undertake the pilgrimage from all over the island to Teror to visit the Virgin
and fulfil their promises. In addition to the popular devotion, an institutional
act is held in which representatives from all the municipalities of the island
arrive in carts bearing gifts and offerings to the Virgin.
9. Fiesta del Pino (Teror) - 7 y 8 de septiembre
La Virgen del Pino es la patrona de Gran Canaria. Por eso no es de extrañar
que, durante la víspera del 8 de septiembre, miles de isleños peregrinen desde
todos los puntos de la isla a Teror para visitar a la Virgen y cumplir con sus
promesas. Además de la devoción popular, hay un acto institucional en el que
representantes de todos los municipios de la isla llegan en carretas para traer
a la Virgen regalos y ofrendas.
