DESTINATIONS TO EXPLORE
The Summer We All Deserve!
There’s always something folks!
Every year there’s something that gets
in the way of our tourism industry hitting
a home run. This year it’s inflation and the
price of gas, but it’s been known by many
names over the years... SARS, gas prices,
9/11, gas prices, border issues, gas prices,
a global pandemic, gas prices and so on.
All I can say at this point is “Don’t let it
stop you.” That ‘thing we don’t wanna talk
about’ cancelled or changed all our travel
plans for far too long (even though it was
actually good for many businesses) but
the worst of it is behind us and we need
to get back to enjoying our lives. (Yes... I
did knock on wood as I wrote that).
We’re thrilled, as I’m sure you are,
to have events back. After two years of
secretly meeting with only your closest
friends in your tarped in back porch
(not that I would do that) we finally have
concerts, parades, fireworks, craft/art/
antique shows, car shows, ribfests, yard
sales, our kids sports, live theatre — even
our local politicians can now argue with
each other face to face.
The pandemic was horrible by all
accounts, but I’ll say again that a few
good things have come out of this long
ordeal. People started supporting small
business in a big way and that seems to
be continuing... we’ve formed new and
good habits, and habits can be hard to
break. I believe people are determined to
get out on the road, use those trailers and
boats they purchased, and enjoy life. I had
friends pass away during the pandemic,
you probably did too, and neither of us
want to see a drive by funeral again.
Maybe the term “Life is Short” means a
bit more than it did not that long ago and
the price of gas, which is always too high,
shouldn’t get in our way, not this year.
So get out there and enjoy it everyone.
Ontario is much more welcoming than
it was only a few years ago, with far
more patios to enjoy and a lot of live
entertainment to keep it interesting. If I
can make one suggestion it would be to
Tell Us About Your
in Southwestern Ontario
stay the night, a few days or a whole week
somewhere in SW Ontario, ideally close
to water. It doesn’t matter if your ideal
vacation is good food on the barbeque, or
hours wasted on the beach, or shopping,
or finding history in local museums. If
you can find quality time to spend in any
area I believe you’ll find the best it can
offer, even if that’s a great meal with local
produce and a sunset.
For any Americans reading this,
I think you’ll quickly discover that your
dollar is worth about 30% more and goes
a lot further in Canada. Many items now
cost less here than they do in the USA
and are a great deal, even with our taxes
(which you can get back). And thanks for
visiting!
Take care of each other too please.
We Canadians went through a tough time
back in the winter that divided us. In
some cases, friends and family became
strangers for a while there. I can’t speak
for anyone but myself but I never lost
confidence that we’d make it through
that time and that our friendships would
persevere for the most part, and be
strengthened in many cases. If we look
around the world I think we can agree
on how fortunate we are. The price of
gas sucks, but that pales in comparison
to problems around the globe and is not
enough to stop us from living life to the
fullest.
So take care, make time for others,
don’t sweat the small stuff, tip the
musicians, forgive, shop locally, tell the
people you love that you love them, and
have the grace to smile when someone
wants to take your picture.
I love you! Thanks for reading.
