I’m sure by now you may have heard
about the Southcoast Dreamdrive along
Highway #3, but if you haven’t, keep
reading. This is a dream 12 years in the
making—a 199 km or 123 mile, movingrolling
“car show” through 16 towns from
Fort Erie all the way to St. Thomas... and
back! It will be a moving car show you
can enter for free at any town along
the way and we are expecting 1,500 to
possibly 3,500+ classic cars, muscle cars
and vintage and hot rod trucks on the
weekend of September 17 & 18, 2022.
Al Billyard is the “Car Guy” who
dreamed this up over a decade ago
and finally has found the time to get
this weekend up and going, and a few
of us have decided to help him make
his dream come true, including various
Classic Car Clubs and local service clubs
along the route that are welcome to to
take part.
A Kings Highway, this was and still is
Ontario’s “Route 66” in a way. Before the
400 series superhighways came along,
this was the route taken from Windsor
to Fort Erie... the route used by our
grandparents and parents to get to most
of the major towns and villages down
this way, from Windsor to St Thomas,
Tillsonburg to Simcoe, Jarvis to Cayuga,
Dunnville to Fort Erie. Many Americans
would take this route to “cut through”
Canada from Buffalo to Detroit.

route of the Talbot Road, an early 19th
Century Ontario pioneer road that was
established to encourage settlement
near the north shore of Lake Erie. It
became the route taken by cars and
buses, tractor trailers and farmers alike.
But it was also the route we all took to go
on summer vacation. Or eventually we
turned 16 and it was a rite of passage
to drive with our friends to burger joints
in the lakeside towns, cruising the main
streets, and going to the drag races either
in Sparta or Cayuga. It was an important
highway in Ontario’s “Car Culture” early
development.
So please join us in making this
idea as grand as the highway itself. We
hope to attract car and truck owners of
domestic and imports, cars and trucks
that would be 25 years or older, muscle
cars, classics and new special interest
cars, including recent factory muscle
cars and trucks. And if you just want to
enjoy this massive parade, you can do
that, too! That’s what this weekend in
September will be all about. It will bring
tons of spectators and great classic cars
to this area, roadside spectators who will
be looking for events to attend, food to
eat and places to stay.
