1) If you’ve ever bought an old trunk and can’t figure
out how to get rid of the musty odour even after trying
the baking soda, vinegar and rice remedy, you may
want to try this one. Go to a pet supply store and buy
a box of charcoal chips. Put chips in a plastic
margarine tub and set that in the trunk. Close the lid and leave it there
for a couple of days. You may have to repeat the procedure and leave
a few days longer. It definitely helps get rid of the unpleasant smell.
2) Did you know that when saw blades become gummed up with resin
you can clean them with oven cleaner? Use the same process as you
do when cleaning oven racks or the barbecue grill. However, be sure to
dry thoroughly after cleaning.
3) Candles that you use a few times sometimes become scratched and
dented, tempting you to throw them in the garbage. Don’t do it. You
can rejuvenate them by holding under running hot water, drying with
a towel and buffing with a nylon stocking folded into a handy pad.
4) Did you know that if you zap garlic in the microwave for 15
seconds the skin slips right off? Also, zapping a lemon or lime in the
microwave for 15 seconds doubles the amount of juice? It sounds
bizarre, but it’s true.
5) Do you have floor boards that drive you crazy with their squeaks?
Dust them with talcum powder. Leave for about 20 minutes and then
vacuum. Voila! No more squeaking.
6) Clean your kitchen countertop with club soda, buff dry with a soft
cloth. You’ll be surprised at the shine.
7) Marble sometimes is difficult to clean. Try cutting a lemon in half,
sprinkling salt on it and using it for a scouring pad - but be gentle.
Then wash thoroughly with soap and water, rinse and dry with a clean
soft cloth. Marble cleaning made simple.
8) Are the kids marking up the walls with crayons? Simply scrub off
with toothpaste.
9) To clean antique combs and brushes, first remove any hair, the
swish around in baking soda & hot water. Rinse thoroughly and set on
terry cloth towel to dry.
