Gone Fishin’<br />

There’s so much work, I could get done.<br />
But, a work free day’s my mission.<br />
Instead of cleaning this old house,<br />
I think I’ll just go fishin’.<br />
I’ll grab my pole and tackle-box.<br />
Some lures, some worms, a spinner.<br />
My goal? A peaceful river’s edge<br />
and a nice big trout, for dinner.<br />
After all the time, that I have spent,<br />
getting lures and worms and slugs,<br />
The only thing that’s biting,<br />
are black flies and other bugs.<br />

My first cast is a beauty.<br />
I’m as proud as I can be.<br />
‘Till I notice that my line is caught,<br />
behind me, in a tree.<br />
It takes some time to get it down.<br />
By the time I get it free.<br />
I find my line is broken and<br />
the hook is in my knee.<br />
One band-aid and a new hook,<br />
A juicy worm and bobber.<br />
My second cast is better.<br />
At least it’s in the water.<br />
But, the day’s been so relaxing.<br />
Fresh air and sunshine’s nice.<br />
I should do this more often<br />
and I only fell in, twice.<br />
But, now it’s time to head home.<br />
The fishing’s been quite poor.<br />
I’m soaking wet and itchy<br />
and I’ve just lost one more lure.<br />
Today was not a failure.<br />
Though I have no fish to roast.<br />
I got to spend it fishing and<br />
for supper, I’ll have toast.<br />
