Blooming daffodils, asymbol of hope<br />

around town earlier this week,<br />
as part of the annual Daffodil<br />
Day campaign.<br />
Street collectors will also be<br />
out and about tomorrow<br />
collecting for the annual event.<br />
Scores of volunteers were on<br />
site at the Cancer Society to<br />
bundle 175 bunches of the<br />
spring bloom into bundles of 30<br />
and 50.<br />
Wrapped and bowed, the<br />
daffodils were then delivered<br />
to supporting businesses<br />
around town by volunteers, and<br />
members of the Vintage Car<br />
Club driving their classic cars.<br />
Daffodil Day symbolises hope<br />
for all New Zealanders<br />
impacted by cancer. Daffodil<br />
Day raises awareness of cancer<br />
and is the biggest generator of<br />
funds for the Cancer Society.<br />
The daffodil is one of the first<br />
flowers of the spring season<br />
and its bright yellow bloom<br />
represents hope for the one in<br />
three New Zealanders affected<br />
by cancer each year; that is 71<br />
people every day being<br />
diagnosed with cancer.<br />
For over 30 years New<br />
Zealanders have supported the<br />
work of the Cancer Society on<br />
Daffodil Day. Every dollar<br />
raised for Daffodil Day will go<br />
towards cancer care for<br />
patients and their whānau,<br />
education and awareness<br />
programmes, and lifesaving<br />
cancer research.<br />
