TheHurunuiGardenFesvalreturnsinOctober<br />
for the fih celebraon of inspiraonal<br />
gardens, coupled with the hospitality of<br />
their owners, and the people ofthe Hurunui<br />
district. There isabounty of gardens onoffer<br />
to admire and inspire, with some properes<br />
alsohosng events.<br />
The fesval runs from Thursday, October 27<br />
to Sunday, October 30, and will showcase <strong>25</strong><br />
privategardens,eachofwhich will open from<br />
9am to 5pmeach day.<br />
Some favourites return, and new ones have<br />
come on board,tohostvisitors keen to enjoy<br />
gardens from Amberley, Hawarden, Waikari<br />
andHanmer Springs to GoreBay,Greta Valley,<br />
Scargill, Culverdenand Rotherham.<br />
Theyare arrangedinsix geographically-based<br />
clusters making it easytoplan visits to mulple<br />
gardens. Each clusterhas its owndetailed map<br />
in the guide which can be printed from the<br />
websitehurunuigardenfesval.com.<br />
This shows the exact locaons of thegardens,<br />
along with other useful informaon, such as<br />
the locaon of publictoilets,fuel staonsand<br />
food outlets.<br />
Owners have been hard atwork maintaining<br />
their gardens,despite Mother Naturesending<br />
rain, hail, snow, gales and frosts to thwart<br />
theirpreparaon.<br />
Gardening guru, Lynda Hallinan, who is also<br />
an author, broadcaster, journalist, part-<br />
me farmer, parent and plantaholic, will be<br />
aending the fesval. The former editor of<br />
the NewZealand Gardener magazine will join<br />
the fesval for aspeaking and dinner event<br />
designed to educate, entertainand inspire.<br />

host aseries of free talks atthe owners of<br />
three inspiringgardensinthisyear’s fesval.<br />
Also on offer is ashowcase of local arsts<br />
works, sculpture, aphotography exhibion,<br />
garden furniture, gardening/outdoor<br />
products,plants indoor and outdoor,gi ware,<br />
prints,easylistening jazz and even aChristmas<br />
Groo.<br />
AFossils and Concreons tour, where visitors<br />
candiscover thehistory anduniquenessofthe<br />
Waipara River, isaguided tour with geologist<br />
Dr Kate Pedley.<br />
It runs from 12.30pm, Saturday, October<br />
