FASHION & TEXTILES
Fashion and textiles are enormous creative
industries. From clothing and accessories to
home furnishings, designers, technicians and
merchandisers are responsible for creating all
the beautiful items we covet. Technical skills
and expertise in these two areas are always in
demand. Bradford College has a long history in
teaching technical courses in textiles practice,
in a city famed for its textiles industry.
Our BA (Hons) Fashion degree is designed to
produce highly qualified, employment-ready
graduates who can play leading roles in a wide
range of fashion-related careers. You will learn
about fashion practice and sustainability, pattern
cutting and garment construction, designing for
industry, fashion communication and promotion,
concept development and technology.
You will design and create a portfolio of work
in well-resourced fashion workshops, taught by
our highly experienced lecturers and technicians.
You can utilise our all-purpose studio spaces
to take photographs of your designs.
The highlight of the year for Fashion students
is the End of Year Show where their finished
designs are modelled on a custom-built runway.
Our Foundation Degree in Textiles Practice
has been specifically developed for those
wishing to develop professional practice
in textile art, contemporary craft and
designer-made products.
The course will develop your technical skills in
mixed media, stitch and constructed textiles,
as well as focusing on researching ideas and
developing original designs. Links between
historical and contemporary practices in textiles
will be made through guided research and
individual practice.
Textiles Practice students learn in a dynamic
environment using facilities including our
specialist textile print workshops, weaving
looms and the Bradford College Textile Archive.
External study visits, trips, industry-led talks
and live projects make this degree a rich
learning experience.
Upon completion of your foundation
degree, you have the option of taking
our part-time BA (Hons) Textiles Practice
degree top-up programme.
