• President Eisenhower ordered<br />

the National Guard to help enforce the<br />

racial integration of schools in Little Rock,<br />

• British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain returned to<br />

England after meeting with Adolf Hitler and proclaimed, “peace<br />

in our time.” Chamberlain claimed the agreement meant peace;<br />

however, Hitler would go beyond the bounds of the agreement and<br />

would later invade Poland as well as Czechoslovakia. Chamberlain<br />

would resign in disgrace a year later.<br />
