Spider Baby Lives On

Happy Halloween everybody!

I recently did a Vegas Voice Hollywood
segment where we talked about the movie
Spider Baby. I did this movie way back in
1967. It also starred Lon Chaney Jr.
I realize that horror movies aren’t for
everyone, however, much to my surprise
the segment received well over 18,000 hits
on YouTube!
Recently, I was contacted by an up and
coming young film maker by the name
of Dustin Ferguson. He wanted to do a
remake of Spider Baby and he wanted me
to do a cameo in it.
Dustin told me that it would be executive
produced by the original writer/director Jack Hill. I was excited to hear
that the movie was deemed worthy enough to even be considered for a
re-make.
I still get fan mail from all over the world in regards to Spider Baby,
and since Jack Hill was on board with a re-make I was thrilled to be a
part of it. I was also contacted by Rob Zombie. If you’re a horror fan you
will know exactly who he is, as he is huge in this genre.
He just produced the sound track for Spider Baby and I am on
the cover, along with many photos (along with an interview by Rob
Zombie). It’s on 2 vinyl records which apparently is now the “new
thing”!
The new re-make is having its red
carpet premiere in Santa Ana, California
on Halloween, October 31 st at 7:00 pm.
It will be at the Frida theater and the
premier is open to the public.
Filming was fun and I met Ron
Chaney.(See photo) He’s Lon Chaney’s
grandson and he also had a cameo
role. It was wonderful to reminisce
with him about his grandfather as Lon
Chaney Jr. was such a dear man and was one of my favorite people to
work with.
Sadly, only Mary Mitchel (who played Ann the secretary in the
original) and I are the only two actors still alive from the original
movie. Mary, who is now 83 is retired, so that leaves me as the only
original cast member.
I was honored and thrilled to be a part of the re-make. All these years
later and Spider Baby still lives on! I guess you just never know what
the future can bring!
