Artist Enrique Alférez
Enrique Alférez moved to New Orleans in 1929 and stayed
and worked in the city for almost 70 years. In this time, the
Zacatecas-born artist left a significant mark. Sculptures, fountains,
monuments, and more of his creations are exhibited throughout
different parts of town, like on the facade of the New Orleans
Lakefront Airport and its fountain, Charity Hospital, the Poydras
Corridor Sculpture Exhibition, and numerous pieces in NOMA, as
well as bridges, fountains and the Botanical Garden in City Park,
just to name a few!
The Helis Foundation cherishes his essential legacy, by
preserving his art, and supporting Evenings with Enrique, a
series created in 2016 that honors his name and highlights Latin
American art and music in New Orleans.
Evenings with Enrique provides a chance to enjoy the works of
the renowned artist while strolling through the Botanical Garden
and relishing music from local Latin bands, free of charge for
Louisiana residents on Wednesdays in October and April.
