Construction to begin on
Townsend Playground
Construction will begin this month onanew
playground at Townsend Road Reserve in Rangiora.
The works will take place between November 2023
and January 2024 and include:
• Earthworks and surface preparation
• Construction of footpaths and concrete areas
• Installation ofthe playground equipment
• Installation ofstreet furniture and fence.
Entry/exit points for construction vehicles into the
site will be designed to limit the impact on traffic
and take into account children playing and riding
bikes on the street. Neighbours ofthe reserve
should expect some construction noise.
During construction access to the reserve will
be restricted.
Council started consultation with the community on
the design of the playground back inNovember 2021
and the final design was approved bythe Rangiora-
Ashley Community Board in August 2022. Delays
in delivery ofthe play equipment and landscaping
items meant that construction ofthe playground
has been delayed.
The playground is expected to open in late Summer
and will include asmall BMX/pump track, large open
slide, smaller slide for younger children, swing set
and separate nest swing, spinner, rockers, nature play
area, flying fox and aformalised cycle/scooter loop
path around the play space.
Upcoming Roadworks
Starting on Monday 20November, CORDE will
be carrying out pavement rehabilitation (granular
overlay) on Easterbrook Road. This work will take
four–six weeks tocomplete (weather permitting).
The road will be closed between Hicklands Road and
Mountvista Road, between the hours of7am and
6pm. Itwill reopen to traffic with areduced speed
limit in place overnight and while no work is taking
place. Traffic will be detoured via Plaskett Road to
the west, or Flaxton Road to the east.
Pine Avenue, Waikuku Beach is closed from Monday
20 November for uptofour days while the damaged
sewer main isrepaired.
Courtenay Drive will be closed in the northbound
(anticlockwise) direction from Wyber Place to
Charters Street until 22 December for works at the
Kaiapoi Community Hub site.

Does Your Pool
Fence Comply?
Summer ishere and it’s important pool barriers
and fencing comply with the Building Act.
From November to March each year we’ll be visiting
properties to check if apool is still present, the type
and if thepool fence complies.
We’ll leave anotice in the letterbox after the check, and
note any items that may need tobeaddressed.

The Building Act requires us to inspect pool barriers
regularly for compliance to the Building Code.
