Notes From An Agnostic Jesus-Follower<br />

My name is Bruce Ewing. I’ve been a member<br />
of The Vegas Voice family for years — since<br />
publisher Dan first<br />
came to see a show I produced and appeared<br />
in called “The Phat Pack.” It was a show<br />
that we did for a number of years (both<br />
in Las Vegas and nationally) with other<br />
performers I worked with in “Phantom:<br />
The Las Vegas Spectacular”<br />
The Vegas Voice did his best to help<br />
us make a success out of our show. This<br />
friendship has flourished over the years,<br />
producing other shows and traveling on<br />
cruises with the Vegas Voyagers.<br />
Along with my love for performing, I also<br />
love the Divine — aka God — aka the<br />
Great Creator — aka the Source of Love.<br />
I worked at Community Lutheran Church<br />
for the past 15 years as choir director/worship leader.<br />
I also wrote a Daily E-votional for years, simply sharing my thoughts<br />
on the two most wonderful gifts of a spiritual life: Love & Grace.<br />
Even though I grew up Lutheran and have worked for the past 15<br />

years in a Lutheran Church, I don’t call myself a Christian. I don’t<br />
always like what that means in current day America.<br />
I tell people, “I’m not a Christian, I am a Jesus-follower” and even<br />
more recently I’ve done some writings under the title “Notes from an<br />
Agnostic Jesus-Follower.” Some people<br />
shudder at the word ‘agnostic’, but all it<br />
really means is, “I don’t know anything<br />
for sure… but I do love following the<br />
teachings of Jesus!”<br />
I also love following and learning<br />
more about other faiths. I love to look<br />
for the similarities. We can focus on the<br />
differences, but what good does that do?<br />
Can you imagine if we all concentrated<br />
on our similarities, how much better our<br />
society could be?<br />
I am not a theologian. I am not a<br />
religious expert. I’m simply a neighbor who<br />
loves talking “faith.” And I look forward to<br />
doing that with you in future editions!<br />

“Forever Plaid, Phantom, and The Phat Pack. He still sings where/<br />
when asked as well as teaching at OLLI/UNLV<br />
