Emilia has discovered
the charm of MTBO
Seventeen-year-old Emilia from Nybro has grown up in a
proper orienteering family and has orienteered for as long
as she can remember. Since she went on confirmation
camp in 2022, she has competed more seriously. She has
also tried some different orienteering disciplines and as
really fallen for MTBO.

What’s so fun about MTBO?
– Getting to experience so much and such varied terrain in training
and competition – and beating my dad in a sprint finish.
What’s the most difficult thing?
– Probably finding the fastest route choices for your speed and
cycling technique.
Have you done MTBO for long?
– I started in 2022 but I have tried it before that, things like the
Småland District Championships at home in Nybro when I was
younger.
Do you have to be good at fixing bikes?
– No, you don’t need to be such a specialist. Usually you just go
out and do it. If something happens to your bike in the forest
and you can’t fix it, you just have to wheel it to the finish.
Do you have any goals?
– It would be fun to go to a big competition. I’m going to the
Swedish Cup later this year.
Who got you into MTBO?
– My dad got into MTBO a few years ago (when he couldn’t run),
then I sometimes went along to the training and competitions and
it was so much fun that I started training and competing myself.

Swedish Youth Championships in MTBO last
year in both Sprint and Long distance
Why should you come to the Småland coast and cycle at O-Ringen?
– The terrain is great, it’s a good experience and good training,
there are open rock areas and small paths. Most of the races are
so close to O-Ringen Square that you can cycle to them, too,
and you can meet your clubmates and have a fun week!
What will you be doing at O-Ringen week?
I’ve entered D18E but if I’m not selected I’ll help with the MTBO
organisation.
