Unveiling Victoria Playhouse Petrolia’s
Spectacular 2024 Theatre Season
In the heart of Ontario’s picturesque
Petrolia, the Victoria Playhouse Petrolia
(VPP) gears up for a summer that
promises not just stellar performances
but an aptly titled ‘A Rush of Excitement’
as the upcoming theatre season unfolds
a diverse array of productions that
celebrate Petrolia’s rich history, pay
homage to musical legends, welcome
audience favourites back to the stage,
and bring poignant tales to life.
Oil Rush: The Big Discovery Musical
– May 7-26
Kicking off the season is “Oil Rush,”
a Canadian musical written by Robert
More and Jacqueline Sadler that delves
into the roots of Petrolia, paying tribute
to its historic connection to the oil
industry. As the town commemorates
its 150th birthday “Oil Rush” promises
to be a captivating journey through time
showcasing the resilience and spirit of
the community that thrived amidst the
black gold boom. Audiences can expect
a visually stunning performance full of
amusing characters and some fine knee
slappin’ music that not only entertains
but also educates, offering a unique
glimpse into the town’s fascinating past.
Rainy Day People: A Tribute to
Gordon Lightfoot – June 4-23
The VPP continues its stellar lineup
with “Rainy Day People,” a musical
tribute to the legendary Gordon
Lightfoot. Lightfoot’s timeless melodies
and poetic lyrics have left an indelible
mark on the world of folk music and this
production aims to honour his legacy in
a way that only live theatre can. Lead by
Canada’s own Sarah Smith the company
performs a beautifully curated selection
of Lightfoot’s greatest hits immersing
patrons in the nostalgia and musical
brilliance of a true Canadian folk hero.
Sweet Soul Music: A Non-Stop Hit
Parade – July 2-28
The excitement doesn’t wane as the
season progresses into “Sweet Soul
Music,” a soulful journey that pays
homage to the greatest in the genre.

Bacchus, known for his electrifying
performances and soul-stirring vocals,
this production promises to be a
mesmerizing experience for lovers
of soul music and beyond. The stage
will come alive with the energy and
emotion of timeless classics creating an
atmosphere that transports the audience
to the golden era of soul music.
Tuesdays with Morrie: A Life
Altering Friendship – August 6-18
As August unfolds the Victoria
Playhouse Petrolia takes a poignant turn
with “Tuesdays with Morrie,” written by
Jeffrey Hatcher and Mitch Albom. Based
on a true story, this emotionally charged
play explores the profound lessons
learned by a young journalist (played
by Michael Vanhevel) from his former
college professor, Morrie Schwartz
(played by Keith Savage). Delving
into themes of life, love, and human
connection, this production is sure to
leave a lasting impact on the hearts of
the audience.
The Ultimate Fiddler on the Loose:
All Your Fiddlin’ Favourites –
September 10-29
September brings the muchanticipated
return of Jesse Grandmont
and friends in “The Ultimate Fiddler on
the Loose.” Due to popular demand, this
lively and energetic group commands
the VPP stage once again, showcasing
the mastery of fiddling, comedy and
step-dancing, promising to blow the
VPP roof off one more time.
The Tony Bennett Songbook: A Heart
Full of Song – October 8-27
Closing the season with a flourish,
the Victoria Playhouse Petrolia presents
“The Tony Bennett Songbook.” A
very special cast comes together to
celebrate the everlasting music of
Tony Bennett, highlighting some of
his most memorable performances
and moments in the entertainment
business. Audiences can expect an
evening filled with nostalgia, reverence,
and an immersive tribute to a musical
legend.
