In 1972 I went to Guelph for a Flowers<br />
Canada course and came away with a<br />
$250 scholarship, so I thought I would<br />
pursue this career. Now I’m celebrating<br />
50 years in the flower business!<br />
I worked for two years at Village<br />
Flowers in Sarnia’s Lambton Mall where<br />
I met Bev Plata, and we opened Flowers<br />
Plus on Exmouth Street as partners in<br />
1974. That was my 20th birthday!<br />
We grew our business there for 23<br />
years, which included opening a store in<br />
the mall, and then in my hometown of<br />
Forest.<br />
In 1995 we separated our partnership<br />
and I took over the Forest location<br />
renaming it Forest Florist & Country<br />
Accents. We were originally located at 1<br />
Main Street but that has since been torn<br />
down. In 1997 we opened at our present<br />
location at 1 Victoria Street (which was<br />
a former Canadian Tire Store).<br />
We have survived a truck driving<br />
through our store and Hurricane Sandy<br />
ripping off a portion of our roof. My<br />
rental unit decided to relocate so we<br />
I am an actress born in New York on<br />
December 4, 1964. My breakout role in<br />
a film about a floundering attorney<br />
stuck in rural America won me an<br />
Academy Award. I've had many other<br />
film credits, including playing an aunt<br />
to a popular web-slinging superhero.<br />

This year in May, we celebrate my 50<br />
years in business. Crazy where the time<br />
goes! Thanks to my amazing staff who<br />
have stuck by me for many years, and<br />
congratulations to my current staff: Mary,<br />
Linda, Terri, Sue, Nicole and Wendy.<br />
Thanks to my family... Kevin, Jason<br />
and Nick for supporting me through the<br />
years. They always know to help make<br />
boxes and fill vials of water for holidays.<br />
Most importantly, thank you to my<br />
loyal customers who have become<br />
friends through the years. I have been<br />
there for the highs and lows of their<br />
lives and I’ve alwayss accepted any of<br />
the challenges brought in.<br />
The last 50 plus years in this industry<br />
have been amazing. What the future<br />
brings is the enjoyment. I love my job!<br />
