Chapel Bridge, Lucerne
Switzerland is enchanting: from its snow-capped peaks and alpine
lakes to grand cathedrals, glamorous St Moritz, cosmopolitan
Geneva, and landscape-dotting Heidi houses. A country of fused
cultures - Italian, German and French - Switzerland has the cuisine
to match. Chomp on a sausage over beer or tuck into pasta and
a glass of merlot; enjoy a skewerful of famous Gruyère fondue;
and without doubt, savour a box of sweet Swiss chocolate.
Zurich
Switzerland’s largest city enjoys the finer things in life:
lively bars, great restaurants, elegant theatres, buzzing
clubs, and Europe’s largest annual street party. You can
explore the city’s stunning medieval heart, marvel at the
grand spires of the Grossmuenster and Fraumuenster
cathedrals, and drink from the city’s pristine lake.
Lucerne
According to legend, an angel with a light showed
Lucerne’s pioneers where to build their chapel,
and since then this beautiful settlement in central
Switzerland hasn’t looked back. Known today as the
City of Lights, Lucerne has a wealth of 15th and 17th
century architecture to admire, including its impressive
town hall, and is a wonderful base for exploring the
surrounding countryside, from its towering mountains to
gin-clear lakes and meadows of edelweiss. Scattered with
traditional Heidi houses and ringing cowbells, this region
is a wonderful holiday destination.
Geneva
Hugging the southern shores of Europe’s largest alpine
lake, Geneva is a sleek and cosmopolitan city. The city’s
Old Town teems with historic sites – fountain-filled
squares, cobblestone laneways, enviable museums and
marvellous galleries – and its modern quarter hums with
great hotels, restaurants and international cuisine. Don’t
miss the renowned Musee d’Art et Histoire and be sure to
catch a movie beside Lake Geneva and beneath the stars
at Ciné Lac.
