3: Altringham<br />

Spend your morning in Roman Chester. Walk the city walls and<br />

take in the atmosphere of some 2,000 years of history before<br />

exploring the city’s Roman heritage further at the Grosvenor<br />

Museum; cruise along the River Dee, step inside the gothic<br />

splendour of Chester Cathedral, or browse around the medieval<br />

shopping streets of Eastgate and Watergate. After lunch, spend<br />

a leisurely afternoon in the Peak District National Park to enjoy a<br />

diverse mix of hidden valleys, rolling hills, lush meadows<br />

and rugged moorland. Return to your hotel for the night.<br />

Day 4: Altringham - London<br />

Travel north to Wilmslow to the Quarry Bank Mill and Styal<br />

Estate. You can spend a couple of hours taking in the atmosphere<br />

of the Industrial Revolution; experience life as a mill worker, take<br />

a tour of the Apprentice House and stroll to Styal Village, built to<br />

house mill workers and still a thriving community. Next, move on<br />

to Chatsworth House and Gardens, which have evolved over some<br />

450 years. The famous waterworks include the 300-year-old<br />

Cascade, the trough waterfall in the rockery and the enormous<br />

gravity-fed Emperor Fountain. As well as the huge maze, the<br />

rockery and the rose, cottage and kitchen gardens, there are also<br />

over 5 miles of walks, with rare trees, shrubs, streams and ponds<br />

attractions in the West Midlands and one of the most<br />

spectacular castle ruins in England, best known as the home of<br />

Robert Dudley, the great love of Queen Elizabeth I. Mid-morning<br />

drive to Warwick Castle to immerse yourself in castle life. After<br />

visit William Shakespeare’s Birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon,<br />

one of the most important tourist destinations in the UK. Here<br />

you can visit five Shakespeare houses: his birthplace, Anne<br />

Hathaway’s Cottage, Mary Arden’s House, Hall’s Croft and<br />

Nash’s House. Return to your hotel for the night.<br />

Day 3: Solihull<br />

Drive to Hidcote Manor Gardens, designed and created by<br />

horticulturist Major Lawrence Johnston in the Arts & Crafts style.<br />

Lady Ashcombe, Henry and Mollie Dent-Brocklehurst and<br />

their families. Its glorious gardens are among the very best<br />

Day 4: Solihull - London<br />

Take a trip to Woodstock, to the fabulous Blenheim Palace. It<br />

preserved country village that has been used as the location for<br />

Explore Dyrham Park, set in a beautiful Gloucestershire valley.<br />
