The SRDC will continue to participate in the<br />
Collaborative Partnership for Farming <strong>and</strong> Fishing<br />
Health <strong>and</strong> Safety managed by the RIRDC.<br />
RIRDC Rural Women’s Award<br />
The RIRDC Rural Women’s Award is Australia’s<br />
pre-eminent award to recognise <strong>and</strong> encourage<br />
rural women’s contribution to primary industries,<br />
resource development <strong>and</strong> rural Australia.<br />
While the award acknowledges past achievements,<br />
it is focused on the future <strong>and</strong> provides rural<br />
women with fi nancial <strong>and</strong> practical support to<br />
implement their visions for primary industries<br />
<strong>and</strong> rural Australia, <strong>and</strong> to enhance their leadership<br />
<strong>and</strong> representative capacities. SRDC will continue<br />
to encourage women from the sugarcane industry<br />
to nominate for the award.<br />

The Australian Rural Leadership Foundation<br />
was established in 1992 to respond to emerging<br />
challenges for rural, regional <strong>and</strong> remote Australia.<br />
It creates a network of leaders with compassion<br />
<strong>and</strong> commitment, strategic thinking <strong>and</strong><br />
negotiating skills, <strong>and</strong> the foresight to infl uence<br />
communities, industries, businesses <strong>and</strong> policy<br />
makers.<br />
The SRDC provides a scholarship for an emerging<br />
leader from the sugarcane sugar industry to attend<br />
the Training Rural Australians In Leadership course<br />
– an eight-day residential leadership program.<br />

to optimise performance of<br />
new farming systems in southern<br />
cane l<strong>and</strong>s<br />
This project led by the University of Queensl<strong>and</strong>’s<br />
Alliance for Agriculture & Food Innovation is<br />
jointly funded with the GRDC <strong>and</strong> focuses on<br />
the integration of grain legumes, particularly<br />
soybeans <strong>and</strong> peanuts, into the sugarcane<br />
farming system of southern cane l<strong>and</strong>s.<br />
