3.1.1.10 Connectors :: GPS<br />

The device supports the connection of an external GPS receiver for receiving GPS data. This can be<br />

connected either via the COM1 port or the Ext. Devices (COM4 = RS485) port. This has to be<br />

configured in the SystemManagement module as follows:<br />

� In the options on the main window select the Connections – GPS entry.<br />

� Select the COM 1 or COM4 (RS485) port.<br />

� Click the Save button on the toolbar to set the default settings.<br />

Field Description<br />

Connection<br />

Interface � Select the unit’s COM1 or Ext. Device (=COM4=RS485) interface to which the<br />

GPS receiver is to be connected.<br />

� COM1 is recommended as this is a direct connection.<br />

� If a rail media coupler is connected to the unit then the Ext. Device port is not<br />

available.<br />

Bit rate � Set the maximum bit rate which can be used for transmission between the GPS<br />

receiver and the unit’s COM port.<br />

Data bits � Number of bits which can be transmitted in a data packet.<br />

Parity � Shows whether error checking is carried out or not.<br />

Stop bits � Number of stop bits between two transmitted data packets.<br />

Flow control � Shows how the data flow between the serial interface and GPS receiver is<br />

controlled.<br />

Protocol � Set the protocol used by the GPS receiver.<br />

� The NMEA protocol is supported.<br />

Bitrate: 4800<br />

Data bits: 8<br />

Parity: none<br />

Stop bits: 1<br />

Flow control: none<br />

Protocol: NMEA<br />

GPS databases are not<br />

activated<br />

Use following data sets � Mark the parameters, whose values will be recorded for a subsequent search<br />

and displayed in Vision in live pictures.<br />
