STATEMENT TO PARTICIPANTS
This research investigation is being conducted by Kari Sand-Jecklin, an adjunct
faculty member at West Virginia University and a doctoral student. The purpose of the study
is to test a newly developed instrument that measures student perceptions of their clinical
learning experiences. The study involves completing an inventory (survey) which requests
your opinions about the clinical setting that you are currently experiencing.
Your participation in this study is strictly voluntary. You may choose not to respond
to any or all portions of the inventory. Your decision about participating will have no bearing
on your success in this course or in the nursing program. Your privacy will be protected, as
no names are requested on the inventory. The only identifying mark will be the first two
letters of your mother’s first name and the last two digits of your social security number. This
identification is necessary, as some students will be completing more than one inventory
during the study period.
Analysis of the inventory should be completed by fall, 1998. Your school of nursing
will be provided with summarized results of instrument analysis as well as group data about
perceptions of clinical sites.
