While this prompt is playing, the user can: 1) Wait for the prompt to timeout, or enter the # without entering any digits. The user is returned to the Voice Portal main menu. 2) Dial the destination phone number. The destination phone number is validated against a digit collection map. If the digits entered are invalid and do not match any pattern specified in the digit map, then the digits are processed through translation and eventually receive an appropriate treatment. If the destination digits are valid, then a call is originated on behalf of the user. Once the call is terminated, the user is returned to the Digit Collection prompt and can originate another call. 4.4.1.1 Digit Collection Digit collection for this feature is similar to digit collection for Flash Consultation or per-call Calling ID Blocking. While the user is presented with the Digit Collection prompt, the Media Server performs digit collection. The digit collection map configured for that user is sent to the Media Server. The digit collection map can be configured on a system-wide basis or a group-basis. Depending on the user’s group configuration, the appropriate digit collection map is retrieved and provided to the Media Server. The administrator should note that the system digit collection map allows extension dialing between users of the same group, but does not allow Voice VPN dialing between users of the same enterprise. If the Voice VPN service is assigned to the enterprise, this digit collection map should be modified to allow voice VPN dialing from the Voice Portal. 4.4.1.2 Call Origination BroadWorks attempts to make the call to the specified destination. The call attempt typically results in one of the following conditions: 1) Call reaches destination normally. Ringback is provided either locally by BroadWorks, or remotely by the far-end device. Upon answer, the VP user is connected with the called party. The calling ID for this call is transmitted as if the call had been originated from the user’s usual location. 2) Call reaches a treatment. The treatment is provided either locally by BroadWorks (for example, translations fail, OCP service blocks call), or in-band from the PSTN. The call is originated as if the call had been originated from the user’s normal location. This means that the user’s originating service profile is enabled for these types of calls. For example, OCP, Account/Authorization code applies for calls originated from the Voice Portal. Once the call is connected to a treatment or ringback, the following conditions allow the call to be terminated: � The called party hangs up and the far-end disconnect is propagated through the network back to BroadWorks. � The treatment times out. For an in-band treatment, the far-end disconnect is propagated through the network back to BroadWorks. � The user invokes the “Terminate-Call” function. For more details about the “Terminate-Call” function, refer to section 4.4.1.3Terminate-Call Function. � The user simply hangs up. Calls originated by the Voice Portal on behalf of the user generate an accounting record in the same way as if the call had been originated from the user’s primary location. A service invocation flag allows the billing system to distinguish calls originated by the Voice Portal from calls originated at the user’s usual location(s) 1 . Calls originated by the Voice Portal on behalf of the user are treated independently from calls originated from the user’s usual location(s) or using the CommPilot Call Manager. � Whether a user is busy on a call originated from the Voice Portal or not, incoming calls to that user are delivered to the user’s usual location(s). � Whether a user is busy on a call originated from the Voice Portal or not, calls can still be originated from the user’s usual location(s). � The CommPilot Call Manager is not updated with calls originated from the Voice Portal. Users cannot use the CommPilot Call Manager to control calls originated from the Voice Portal 4.4.1.3 Terminate-Call Function The Terminate-Call function allows a user to dial an escape sequence at any time during the call and terminate a call to return to the current operation. That is, for the “Make Call” option, the user is prompted to make another call. For the “Initiate Call To Sender” option, the user returns to the Play Messages menu. Prior to the actual call origination, an instruction prompt is played to the VP user if the terminate-call function is available. The instruction prompt is played only once per context during a VP session. This means that if a VP user originates successive calls using the 1 The user’s usual location(s) is meant to describe the user’s primary or alternate locations.
