MEETINGS OF STEWARDS, GATEMEN AND ANCILLIARY STAFF TOOK PLACE ON TOESDAY 16~H<br />

AUGUST AND TJESDAY 23RD AUGUST 1988, BOTH MEETINGS COMMENCED AT 7.00 P.M.<br />

~ose present were welcomed by Company Secretary, G.H. Mackrell who introduced:<br />

i) Station Officer[ I- South Yorkshire Fire Brigade<br />

ii) Inspector S. Sewell - South Yorkshire Police<br />

iii) Duty Officer - Peter Wells, St. John Ambulance Brigade<br />

Station Officer ~- Gave a demonstration of <strong>the</strong> various fire extinguishers<br />

located within <strong>the</strong> ground. He emphasised however that matchday staff should<br />

attempt to extinguish only minor fires. If in any doubt <strong>the</strong> alarm should be<br />

given and <strong>the</strong> Fire Brigade sunmoned immediately.<br />

Inspector Sewell:- went through <strong>the</strong> duties of stewards in relation to <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

function within <strong>the</strong> ground. ~he emergency evacuation procedure was dealt with<br />

in detail.<br />

Duty Officer Wells:- Gave a demonstration of basic first aid. ~he location of<br />

S.J.A.B. members situated within <strong>the</strong> ground was pointed out to those present.<br />

Graham Mackrell on behalf of <strong>the</strong> club agreed to provide a small gate onto <strong>the</strong><br />

pitch between <strong>the</strong> South Stand uncovered seating and <strong>the</strong> Kop in order to assist<br />

S.J.A.B. members gaining access to <strong>the</strong> pitch. In addition Mr. Mackrell agreed<br />

with Mr. Wells to provide such First Aid materials as were requested. Mr. Wells<br />

agreed to provide a list of requirements prior to <strong>the</strong> commencement of <strong>the</strong> season.<br />

Dou@ Lock:- Went through "Instructions to Matchday Staff’. He highlighted two<br />

minor amendments:<br />

i ) Ste~rds may be required to report for duty more than two hours before<br />

a match, if prior notice is given.<br />

ii) Smoking is not permitted by matchday staff whilst on duty.<br />

Graham Mackrell <strong>the</strong>n closed <strong>the</strong> formal part of <strong>the</strong> meeting and thanked all those<br />

present for attending, and particularly wished Station Officer Miles a long and<br />

happy retirement.<br />

* Note - At <strong>the</strong> meeting held on 16th August 1988 Mr. Mackrell had to leave at<br />

approximately 7.30 p.m. Mr. Lock took <strong>the</strong> chair and gave <strong>the</strong> vote of thanks.<br />
