Lectures and Conference Participation
From 1999 to 2002, MPIfG researchers gave 520 lectures
at universities, research institutes, foundations,
international symposiums, firms, research organizations,
government offices, think tanks and high
schools. They spoke at meetings of political parties,
trade unions, employer associations and professional
associations. They were also well represented at major
national and international conferences in political
science, sociology, socio-economics and European
studies, and at workshops on such issues as social
pacts, globalization, corporate governance, the internet,
social policy, industrial relations, the EU stability
and growth pact, transformation processes in postsocialist
Europe and network visualization. The institute’s
directors participated in debates at meetings of
unions and political parties and gave lectures to audiences
of government officials in Germany and
abroad.
MPIfG lecturers went to 50 German cities and 27 universities. They gave lectures
in 50 European cities in 18 countries (including 16 in Amsterdam, 9 in Paris, 20
in Florence and 8 in Brussels), and at 16 leading universities in the US and
Canada. There were 12 lectures by MPIfG researchers at Harvard University alone.
One PhD student spoke to the Ministry of International Trade in Tokyo, and three
others presented their work at meetings of the American Political Science
Association. 15 percent of all lectures were given by PhD students. MPIfG
researchers also participated in many conferences and workshops, 125 of which
were held in Germany and 65 abroad.
