The costume, or fake, jewelry
era began in the 20th century
when imaginative design became
valued just as much as precious
stones. Coco Chanel was the first
to dare to introduce the world
of high fashion to ‘poor man’s chic’ — designs
incorporating wood, plastic and non-precious
metals. Since that time, costume jewelry has
ceased to be an inexpensive sign of bad taste
and has increased in value many times.
The best examples of such work will be
displayed at the 5th theme exhibition, ‘Costume
Jewelry — From Vintage to the Present Day,’ to be held from
November 16 to 18 at the Amber Plaza business center. This
three-day retrospective of the 20th century fashion is a chance
to admire the adornments from private collections from Russia,
