ORCHIDS OF CEKMECE NUCLEAR RESEARCH ENSTITUTE<br />

This study which presents orchids of Cekmece Nuclear Research Enstitute (CNRE) is a part<br />

of “The flora of Cekmece Nuclear Research Enstitute (Istanbul) and its Environs” master<br />

thesis. CNRE is located on the European side of Istanbul and its geographical location<br />

according to Davis’s location system for Turkey is A2(E). The area having nearly 3 km² and<br />

its altitude is 50 m from sea side, is saved since 1959 and it has a rich orchid diversity and<br />

population.This study has been carried out between 2003-2005. At least one sample for each<br />

taxon was prepared by herbarium techniques and kept at the Herbarium of Istanbul University<br />

Science Faculty (ISTF).<br />

At the end of this study 11 taxa which belongs to Orchidaceae family has been identified.<br />

These taxa are; Anacamptis pyramidalis (L.) L.C.M. Richard, Ophyrs bombyliflora Link,<br />

Ophyrs oestrifera Boiss. subsp. oestrifera, Ophyrs umbilicata Desf. subsp. umbilicata,<br />

Ophyrs vernixia Brot. Subsp. vernixia, Orchis collina Banks & Sol., Orchis coriophora L.,<br />

Orchis laxiflora Lam., Orchis papilionacea L. var. papilionacea, Orchis purpurea Hudson,<br />

Serapias vomeracea (Burm. fil.) Briq. subsp. laxiflora (Soò) Gölz et Reinhard.<br />
