The Learning Resource Centres at Woodlane and<br />

Tremough provide extensive resources for study,<br />

creativity and inspiration within an integrated<br />

learning environment for all students.<br />

Woodlane offers:<br />

— A specialist art, graphic design and fashion library<br />

with wide-ranging collections including 50,000 books,<br />

e-resources and journals.<br />

— Our Media, Design and Performance collections<br />

— An extensive collection to meet all students’ needs,<br />

including 100,000 books, a wide range of journals,<br />

online and electronic resources, and specialist<br />

video and DVD collections<br />

— A service allowing items to be transferred<br />

between sites.<br />

Many of the online e-resources can be used on and offcampus.<br />

Both Learning Resource Centres are wi-fi<br />

throughout, and include a variety of study spaces and<br />

open access drop-in computer facilities.<br />

The Library team provides support in person, by email<br />

and telephone and individual appointments can be made with<br />

the Academic Liaison Librarians for further subject help.<br />

Opening hours include late night and weekend opening.<br />

Alongside the open-access It facilities on both<br />

campuses, there are:<br />

— Specialist IT and IT training suites with a range of relevant<br />

software to meet generic and subject-specific needs<br />

— A central IT Service Desk offering staff and student<br />

support with extended opening hours<br />

— A laptop loan and laptop clinic service<br />

— A range of IT training courses across the whole<br />

institution, to complement training at course level.<br />

The Learning Space, offers a range of resources and<br />

learning materials, giving you:<br />

— Access to resources – including course materials,<br />

podcasts and video lectures – 24 hours a day<br />

— The opportunity to contact lecturers and fellow students<br />

outside of the normal academic day through online<br />

chat, text and email – encouraging regular interaction<br />

— A dynamic platform on which to post and critique work,<br />

as well as sharing course and industry news<br />

— Informative blogs, help and training videos, and<br />

information about how new technology can be used<br />

for your learning.<br />

ASk Academic Skills<br />

Whether you need assistance with your essay writing or<br />

require advice about specific skills needed to get the most<br />

from your study, ASK is here to help. Offering both drop-in<br />

workshop sessions and bookable one-to-one appointments<br />

for all students, ASK advisers provide advice tailored to<br />

your individual needs at both campuses.<br />

ASk provides support in these key areas:<br />

— <strong>Study</strong> Skills: ASK can help you in a number of areas,<br />

including note-taking, organisational and presentation<br />

skills, planning your workload and revision techniques.<br />

— Dyslexia Support: working closely with the Dyslexia Unit,<br />

ASK helps to ensure that all dyslexic students have the<br />

advice and support they need. One-to-one advice about<br />

dyslexia, screening, assessment and support are all<br />

available. The Accessibility Service and Dyslexia Unit<br />

manage the assessment process and will arrange an<br />

interview for you and help you to apply for funding if<br />

you’re eligible.<br />

— Writing Centre: ASK can help with all your writing needs,<br />

including advice on grammar, vocabulary, structure, essay<br />

planning, scientific writing, numeracy and articulating ideas<br />

and arguments. A series of workshops runs throughout the<br />

year and individual appointments can also be arranged over<br />

the phone, by email, or by dropping in to the office.<br />

— english language Support: EU and international students<br />

can join classes in English for Academic Purposes, Speaking<br />

and Pronunciation Skills and General and Social English.<br />
