If you wish to study for a qualification that is equal to or lower than a qualification you already hold (the ELQ rule), please note that, should you be offered a place, you’ll be charged a higher fee – similar to that of an international student. The first step in applying for a research degree is to complete an Expression of Interest form that can be found on our website http://air.falmouth.ac.uk/page/how-apply Applications for all postgraduate courses, including MPhil/ PhD research, can be submitted at any time – but you’re advised to apply as early as possible as we allocate places as applications are received. english language requirements for a research degree A test (IELTS) scoring at least 7.0+ (with a 7.0 in writing), or TOEFL scores of 600 (Paper), 250 (Computer) and at least level 6 in the Test of Written English (TWE) is required to study for a research degree. Test scores should be as recent as possible (i.e. within the last year). Please note that having lived or studied in an Englishspeaking country does not constitute proof of language and an IELTS test will have to be taken. APl/APel The accreditation of prior learning (APL) or accreditation of prior experiential learning (APEL) is a process which enables people of all ages and backgrounds to receive recognition and formal credit for learning acquired in the past. This might have been acquired through the successful study of a qualification (or part of a qualification) or through professional experience. APL is the account taken of traditional study or course-based learning that has been formally assessed by an educational institution and resulted in the award of a qualification or part-credit for an uncompleted course of study. APEL is the account taken of learning experiences gained through life, work or business that by their nature cannot be evidenced through formally assessed certification. For example, you may have been running your own business as a designer for several years and wish to gain entry to a related MA award. APEL can be used to assess the skills and knowledge base you have gained through your relevant professional experience.
