Don't "monkey" around with M./.P.
This year area students were faced with a new M.I.P. law.
As a result students were exposed to stricter law enforcement
tactics to curb under age drinking. The law states that
any student caught with alcohol in his or her possession wil
receive a loss of driving privileges, a payment of a fine and a
possible court appearance.
Many students from various are High Schools have been
affected by the tougher law. One student, whose name has
been withheld. commented that the law has been successful in
controlling substance abuse with teens and teen drinking parties.
Another student remarked that the law has gone too far,
making under age drinking a crime responded to by police
with the same vigor as a murder. Despite this one student
bluntly stated "It doesn't stop me!"
The law is an attempt to urge teens to use caution and warn
them of the serious effects of alcohoL. Hopefully it wil also
reduce the number of accidents that stem from under age
drinking.
