L.C. Swimmers Achieve the
¡u
Competitive Edge
Beep! Beep! 4:45 a,m, While most,
people slept, members of Spokane Area
Swimming were traveling to practice,
And by 6:45 while most students had hit
their snooze alarm once and had wiped
the sleep out of their eyes, these
swimmers had swum about 5,CX yards
and anxiously awaited breakfast. That
was just the beginningl After school they
practiced for another two hours,
These swimmers competed against a
league which contained the Washington
are: Tri-Cities, Walla Walla, Wenatchee,
Pullman, Moses Lake, Moscow, Coeur
d'Alene, and Yakima, Many also
competed at college, regional, and some
even at the national leveL. Because
swimming is not a high school sport in
Spokane as it is in most Washington high
schools, swimmers often received little
recognition for their efforts, "If we could
compete in high school swimming and
attend State, some of the L.c. students
could be placing in the top ten," said
Dave Lewis, junior,
