Graduate Certificate Programs<br />
ADMISSION<br />
Individuals seeking admission for purposes <strong>of</strong> attaining a graduate certificate, but not<br />
degree seeking, will be evaluated for admission using the same procedures as outlined<br />
for continuing education for credit students, with the written approval <strong>of</strong> the head<br />
<strong>of</strong> the academic center <strong>of</strong>fering the program. Applicants must submit the requisite<br />
application for continuing education (Code: 0102), with fee payment made, and be<br />
certified by the approving <strong>of</strong>ficial as being capable <strong>of</strong> performing to graduate course<br />
standards. Specific admission criteria include the following:<br />
• Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited <strong>university</strong>.<br />
• An undergraduate GPA <strong>of</strong> at least 2.5 is generally sufficient for admission for a graduate<br />
certificate program. An undergraduate GPA that is less than 2.5 will require that<br />
the applicant provide a GMAT, GRE and/or special documentation including letters<br />
<strong>of</strong> reference, résumé, postbaccalaureate credits, certificates <strong>of</strong> training, etc., to be<br />
admitted by exception for a graduate certificate program.<br />
Individuals currently enrolled in a graduate degree program may also qualify for award<br />
<strong>of</strong> a graduate certificate by making a formal request to the local center director, upon<br />
satisfaction <strong>of</strong> the requisite certificate curriculum.<br />
COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS<br />
All courses must be completed with a minimum grade <strong>of</strong> C. A minimum cumulative<br />
grade point average <strong>of</strong> 3.0 will be required for certificate award. Students will<br />
be allowed to attempt seven courses to meet the GPA requirement. If the minimum<br />
GPA is not met after seven courses, and the student would like to continue, he/she<br />
may appeal to the dean.<br />
TRANSFER CREDIT<br />
A possible three-semester hours <strong>of</strong> transfer credit will be allowed and is consistent<br />
with current <strong>university</strong> policy regarding transfer credit. The transfer course must be<br />
from a regionally accredited <strong>university</strong> or an approved military equivalent and must<br />
have an earned grade <strong>of</strong> B or better.<br />
Current or past members <strong>of</strong> the Defense Acquisition, Technology and Logistics (AT&L)<br />
workforce, or contractor employees who have attained a minimum level <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
certification in at least one AT&L career area, may be eligible for as many as six hours<br />
<strong>of</strong> transfer credits to be applied toward a <strong>Florida</strong> Tech Graduate Certificate. Consult<br />
with a faculty adviser or academic unit head for further information about current<br />
transfer credit policies.<br />
SECOND OR SUBSEQUENT GRADUATE CERTIFICATE AWARDS<br />
A second or subsequent graduate certificate program must consist <strong>of</strong> no less than three<br />
courses not previously used to earn a prior graduate certificate at <strong>Florida</strong> Tech. Up to<br />
two courses from any prior earned graduate certificate at <strong>Florida</strong> Tech may be applied<br />
toward the completion requirements for a second or subsequent graduate certificate<br />
award, provided the grade(s) earned was a B or better and the prior course(s) satisfies<br />
a required or elective requirement in the second or subsequent graduate certificate<br />
