MGT 5132 BASIC ECONOMICS (3 credits). Covers<br />
market forces <strong>of</strong> supply and demand, concept <strong>of</strong><br />
utility, firm and production, production function and<br />
costs <strong>of</strong> production, and various market structures.<br />
Introduces macroeconomics, the issues <strong>of</strong> aggregation,<br />
circular flow model, monetary sector and the<br />

METHODS FOR MANAGEMENT (3 credits).<br />
Quantitative models using management science,<br />
operations research and decision science techniques<br />

methods), inventory models, queuing models<br />
and Markov processes. Prerequisites: MGT 5006,<br />

MGT 5134 COMMERCIAL ENTERPRISE IN<br />
SPACE (3 credits). Includes economic considerations<br />
<strong>of</strong> space processing and Earth resources<br />
observation; history <strong>of</strong> in-space experimentation<br />
and developments; definition <strong>of</strong> Earth’s orbital environment<br />
and its attendant commercial advantages;<br />
launch operations and landing/retrieval; financial/<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>it considerations <strong>of</strong> operating in space; and<br />
current commercial space opportunities and risks.<br />
MGT 5136 INVESTMENT ANALYSIS (3 credits).<br />
Includes portfolio design, analysis and management<br />
including the Markowitz approach to portfolio<br />
design; the simplified model <strong>of</strong> William Sharpe;<br />
and the capital asset pricing model. Covers the<br />
management <strong>of</strong> bond and equity portfolios, portfolio<br />

MGT 5139 INTERNATIONAL FINANCIAL<br />
ANALYSIS (3 credits). Focuses on understanding<br />
the problems associated with international financial<br />
management. Includes the environment <strong>of</strong> international<br />
financial management, foreign exchange risk<br />
management, multinational working capital management,<br />
foreign investment analysis and financing<br />
foreign operations. Prerequisites: MGT 5002.<br />
MGT 5140 INTERNATIONAL FINANCE (3<br />
credits). Covers international financial systems<br />
and methods needed to adapt to the international<br />
setting. Includes international monetary system,<br />
foreign exchange markets and international trade,<br />
international accounting and taxation, foreign direct<br />
financial investment, international capital markets,<br />
multinational capital budgeting, exchange exposure<br />

MGT 5141 IMPLEMENTING STATISTICAL<br />
PROCESS CONTROL (3 credits). Implements<br />
an overall SPC program, emphasizing how to manage<br />
a process throughout the entire organization<br />
with the aid <strong>of</strong> tools and methods for the improvement<br />
<strong>of</strong> quality. Includes how to target processes<br />
for SPC, conduct process capability studies and<br />
maintain ongoing process control. Prerequisites:<br />
MGT 5006.<br />
MGT 5142 BUSINESS, GOVERNMENT AND<br />
PUBLIC POLICY (3 credits). Covers the legal<br />
basis <strong>of</strong> the relationship <strong>of</strong> business and government,<br />
dimensions <strong>of</strong> federal regulation <strong>of</strong> business<br />
through Congressional action, administrative oversight<br />
by executive department agencies, regulatory<br />
power <strong>of</strong> independent agencies (Federal Reserve,<br />
SEC and FTC) and importance <strong>of</strong> political action<br />
committees in the influencing <strong>of</strong> public policy.<br />
MGT 5145 TECHNOLOGY AND BUSINESS<br />
STRATEGY (3 credits). Focuses on the process<br />
<strong>of</strong> developing a technology strategy and integrating<br />
it with business strategy. Involves technology<br />
situation analysis, technology portfolio development,<br />
technology and corporate strategy integration<br />
and establishing technology investment priorities.<br />
Extensively uses case studies.<br />
MGT 5146 MANAGEMENT OF INNOVATION<br />
(3 credits). Considers innovation in a historical<br />
context, organizing organizational culture and<br />
innovation, managing cross-functional teams, venturing<br />
and organization learning, intra- and entrepreneurship,<br />
managing R&D resources, executive<br />
leadership and the management <strong>of</strong> innovation and<br />
change, and designing innovative organizations.<br />

MGT 5147 MANAGEMENT OF TECHNOL-<br />
OGY RESEARCH SEMINAR (3 credits). Overviews<br />
past and current MOT research. Systematically<br />
explores adaptation <strong>of</strong> scientific methodology<br />
to the analysis and solution <strong>of</strong> technology management<br />
problems. Requires a written proposal and a<br />
formal oral defense.<br />
