Permission to take a course at another institution for transfer to <strong>Florida</strong> Tech subsequent to<br />

being admitted to University College must be obtained from the cognizant academic unit<br />

head prior to taking the course.<br />

FINAL PROGRAM EXAMINATIONS<br />

A final program examination is required for master’s degree programs with the exception <strong>of</strong><br />

those in the College <strong>of</strong> Business and University College for which there is no on-campus<br />

counterpart.<br />

Procedure for the development and grading <strong>of</strong> operations research (OR) comprehensive<br />

examinations for <strong>of</strong>f-campus students at Aberdeen, Fort Lee and the Virtual Campus:<br />

1. The curriculum manager <strong>of</strong> the <strong>of</strong>f-campus OR program will design the comprehensive<br />

examination (i.e., determine areas to be tested, number <strong>of</strong> questions and/or problems,<br />

weighting, time limits and other test parameters). Faculty members from the <strong>of</strong>f-campus<br />

sites (Aberdeen, Fort Lee and the Virtual Campus) may submit questions or problems with<br />

associated solutions to the curriculum manager <strong>of</strong> the <strong>of</strong>f-campus OR program for inclusion<br />

in the examination. The department head for the operations research program from<br />

the main campus will have the final oversight authority for examination design.<br />

2. Comprehensive examinations may be administered at the <strong>of</strong>f-campus sites and graded by<br />

faculty members at the administering site. However, no grades will be final until both the<br />

curriculum manager <strong>of</strong> the <strong>of</strong>f-campus OR program and department head for the operations<br />

research program from the main campus review the grading.<br />

3. Off-campus sites shall notify the curriculum manager <strong>of</strong> the <strong>of</strong>f-campus OR program<br />

upon learning <strong>of</strong> an eligible student’s intent to sit for the comprehensive examination.<br />

Notification shall include:<br />

a. Student name and contact information<br />

b. Anticipated examination date<br />

c. Where examination will be administered (<strong>of</strong>f-campus site)<br />

d. Off-campus site point-<strong>of</strong>-contact<br />

Every effort should be made to have comprehensive examinations administered and graded<br />

no later than one month prior to the end <strong>of</strong> the intended graduation semester.<br />

4. Completion <strong>of</strong> the examination report form will require these signatures:<br />

a. Major Adviser: On this line, the name/signature <strong>of</strong> a full-time graduate faculty member<br />

who is in the student’s program (i.e., operations research) will be entered. This must be<br />

the student’s program chair or another full-time graduate faculty member <strong>of</strong> the student’s<br />

academic unit designated by the student’s program chair.<br />

b. Outside Member: On this line, the name/signature <strong>of</strong> a full-time graduate faculty member<br />

who is administratively different from the student’s program will be entered. Typically,<br />

this will be someone at the <strong>of</strong>f-campus site who meets the above stated criteria.<br />

c. Other Member: On this line, the name/signature <strong>of</strong> other committee members who<br />

must be on the graduate faculty, but can be other than full time (adjunct, visiting, etc.).<br />

Typically, this will be the curriculum manager <strong>of</strong> the <strong>of</strong>f-campus OR program.<br />

5. Only students with an overall GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.0 at the beginning <strong>of</strong> the term during which the<br />

comprehensive examinations are administered are eligible to take the examination.<br />
