PROFESSIONAL MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (PMBA)<br />
(Code: 8391)<br />
The Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Master <strong>of</strong> Business Administration program provides graduates with the<br />
skills needed to be adaptable performers in current positions and the competencies needed<br />
for long-term career development. This program develops within managers the skills and<br />
techniques for team leadership coupled with integrity, social responsibility and a high degree<br />
<strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essionalism. This program is designed to meet the needs <strong>of</strong> three groups <strong>of</strong> people:<br />
1. Individuals whose careers have previously focused on specialized areas and who seek to<br />
develop a more generalist perspective in anticipation <strong>of</strong> advancement.<br />
2. Individuals with work experience and business degrees who wish to build on that foundation<br />
for further advancement.<br />
3. Individuals with limited work experience who plan to use the PMBA as a foundation on<br />
which to begin their careers.<br />
The goal <strong>of</strong> the PMBA is to prepare individuals for advanced leadership positions in the private,<br />
public and military sectors with specific skills and competencies in business administration<br />
and identified concentration areas.<br />
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS<br />
The applicant to the PMBA program must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited <strong>college</strong><br />
with an acceptable grade point average and a satisfactory score on the Graduate Management<br />
Admission Test (GMAT). General admission requirements and the process for applying are<br />
presented in Section 1 <strong>of</strong> this catalog. Individuals who do not meet the stated requirements<br />
for regular admission may petition to take graduate courses for credit as a continuing education<br />
applicant.<br />
DEGREE REQUIREMENTS<br />
The Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Master <strong>of</strong> Business Administration degree, with or without a concentration,<br />
is conferred upon students who have successfully completed 36 credit hours <strong>of</strong> core and elective<br />
courses as listed on the student’s approved graduate program plan. Additional prerequisite<br />
courses may be required depending on the applicant’s undergraduate preparation.<br />
CURRICULUM<br />
All PMBA options require completion <strong>of</strong> a common set <strong>of</strong> nine core courses that are designed<br />
to prepare the student for an ever-changing, dynamic organizational environment. The student<br />
must complete the prerequisite requirements, if any, before completing nine credit hours <strong>of</strong><br />
core courses, or enrolling in a core course for which a prerequisite course is needed.<br />
Prerequisite Courses (noncredit for this program)<br />
Prerequisite courses are required <strong>of</strong> a student whose undergraduate major is outside the business area or<br />
who has not previously completed courses in these prerequisite areas. The exact number <strong>of</strong> prerequisite<br />
courses is dependent on courses completed during the student’s undergraduate studies.<br />

MGT 5132 Basic Economics (or two undergraduate economics courses)<br />
Note: In addition, computer literacy is required as a prerequisite. It can be demonstrated by the applicant’s<br />
undergraduate course work, passing a pr<strong>of</strong>iciency examination <strong>of</strong>fered by University College or by<br />
completing a suitable computer course.<br />
