Dairy Farm Enters Philippines Retail Market
Dairy Farm is entering the retail
market in the Philippines with the
acquisition of a 50% interest in
Rustan Supercenters, Inc (RSCI).
RSCI, which was established by the
Tantoco family, is one of the leading
grocery chains in the country. It
currently operates ten hypermarkets
and nine supermarkets under the
Shopwise brand, which caters mainly
to mass market consumers, and 13
Rustan’s supermarkets, which offer
a variety of fresh food and groceries
for middle income consumers.
New Business for Jardine Aviation Services
Peach Aviation has appointed Jardine
Aviation Services (JAS) to provide
passenger and ramp handling services
at Hong Kong International Airport.
From its base at Kansai International
Airport in Japan, Peach Aviation
has begun daily passenger flights
between Osaka (Kansai) and Hong
Kong using A320 aircraft.
Meanwhile, JAS provided VIP ground
services for China’s President, Hu
Jintao, when he arrived in Hong Kong
to attend the 15th anniversary of
Hong Kong’s handover to mainland
China and the swearing-in ceremony
of the fourth Hong Kong Special
Administrative Region Government.
“This investment provides Dairy Farm
with an excellent strategic opportunity
to enter another key Asian market
and enables us to advance our growth
strategy in the region,” explained
Dairy Farm Group Chief Executive
Michael Kok. “We are looking forward
to working closely with RSCI to build
on its existing platform and grow the
Shopwise and Rustan businesses in
the coming years to the benefit of
customers, employees, suppliers
and shareholders.”
JAS greeted the Air China
presidential flight with professional
aircraft handling and VIP reception
services on its arrival at Hong Kong
International Airport, and handled
President Hu’s departure three
days later.
In another development, JAS shared
its experience and expertise in the
form of a seminar for nearly 200
Yunnan airport community members,
prior to the successful relocation of
Kunming’s airport to its new home at
Changshui International Airport. JAS
and Yunnan Airport Group have had a
strategic alliance since establishing
their joint venture, Yunnan Airport
Service Limited, in Kunming in 2009.

THACO Extends
Competitive Advantage
with New Port
THACO Chairman Tran Ba Duong addresses guests at
the opening of Chu Lai – Truong Hai Port.
Truong Hai Auto Corporation (THACO),
in which Jardine Cycle & Carriage holds
a 32% interest, has held an opening
ceremony to celebrate the completion
of the first phase of Chu Lai – Truong
Hai Port at Tam Hiep industrial park
in Quang Nam province, Vietnam. The
event was attended by the Deputy
Minister of Transportation and various
Central and Quang Nam Province
committee members and governors.
“The new port will support the value
chain of THACO thus helping to
increase its competitive advantage,”
explained THACO Chairman Tran Ba
Duong. “In addition it will provide a
full logistics service for companies in
Chu Lai and serve as a port facility for
the surrounding region.”
Chu Lai – Truong Hai Port, which
took two years to construct with an
investment of US$16.5 million, has
the capacity to handle 1.6 million tons
of goods and 56,000 TEU containers
per annum. It is equipped with a
300 metre-long bridge, bonded
warehouses, and a 15-hectare service
area with modern facilities as well as a
newly-built tugboat.
